1833 Chairman of the Rotherham Gas Light and Coke Co. Presentation for his service in 1846.[1]

1841 Listed in Rotherham as a Chemist and Agriculturist age ca.60. With Elizabeth age ca.55, Sarah age ca.25 and Emma age ca.17.[2]

1842 Mentioned. John Aldred, manufacturing chemist, of Rotherham.[3]

1845 Mentioned. John Aldred, Esq., Wellgate House, Rotherham.[4]

1851 Living at Wellagate, Rotherham: John Aldred (age 69 born Rotherham), Mechanical and Manufacturing Chemist. With his wife Elizabeth Aldred (age 64 born Ryale, Rutland) and their two daughters Elizabeth I. Aldred (age 34 born Tinwell, Lincs) and Sarah E. Aldred (age 26 born Rotherham). Two servants.[5]

1855 September 14th. Died. 'On the 14th instant, in the 75th year of his age John Aldred, Esq., of Wellgate, Rotherham, chemist. Mr. Aldred was one of the feoffees of the common lands of Rotherham, a member of the Board of Health, one of the vice-chairmen of the poor law guardians of the Rotherham Union, and chairman of the Rotherham Gas Company.'
