John Archibald Gray was born in 1912 and was trained in automobile engineering with A. Gray and Co., Guildford, and at Guildford Technical College.

In 1931 he went to Kenya and spent three years on maintenance work with Motor Tours, Ltd., of Nairobi.

He then returned to Messrs. Gray and Co. and continued with car maintenance work until 1939, when he became a Flying-Officer in the R.A.F.

He was reported killed in action in November, 1940.

He was elected a Probationary Graduate in 1935 and was transferred to Graduate in 1936.
