Early 1870s John Bramall (1812-1887) with Thomas Sorby and J. B. Walker decided to form a company to trade across the Atlantic, with 4 ships - see J. B. Walker and Co. The first ship was named John Bramall, followed by Thomas Sorby, and J. B. Walker and Nelly Martin (named after Brammall's daughter). [3]
