John Bedford (c1815-1898) of John Bedford and Sons
ca.1815 Born in Sheffield, son of John Bedford II
His grandfather, John Bedford I, was a landowner and yeoman who had founded a steel tilters business in the village of Oughtibridge in 1792[1]. John Bedford I rented a forge to set up his son John Bedford II in business.
His son, John Bedford, was able to have a Continental education.

1864 John Bedford took his capital out of the family business and went into business as Bramall and Bedford in Mowbray Street, which later developed into his own company which became a major commercial enterprise in Sheffield[2]. Bramall was familiar with the manufacturing side of the business and Bedford the commercial side.
1871 The Bramall and Bedford partnership was dissolved when Bramall retired from business. Bedford continued as John Bedford and Sons
