JOHN BISHOP, whose untimely death occurred on 7th April 1942 in his thirty-fourth year, was born in Warrington and received his technical education at Warrington, Widnes, and St. Helens Technical Institutes. From 1929 to 1936 he served his apprenticeship with Messrs. E. Forshaws, Ltd., and with the Lancashire Steel Corporation, Ltd.

He then joined the staff of the Warrington Technical Institute as workshop instructor and until 1939 was engaged in that side of the education of engineering apprentices. In the same year the workshop was taken over by the Government as an Emergency Training Centre, Mr. Bishop remaining in charge.

He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1941, less than five months before his death.
