c1846 Born at Hinckley, Leics., as Boultbee Brooks, the son of Boultbee Brooks and his wife Ann Smith
1851 Living at Stockwell Road, Hinckley: Boultbee Brooks (age 34 born Hinckley), Master Frame Smith. With his wife Ann Brooks (age 32 born Hinckley) and their three sons; Frederick Brooks (age 10 born Hinckley); Boultbee Brooks (age 5 born Hinckley); and Walter Brooks (age 2 born Hinckley).[1]
1861 A boarder at 102 Grant Street, Birmingham: John B. Brooks (age 14 born Hinckley, Leics.), Manufacturers Clerk. In the house of Mary and Joseph Clarke.[2]
1869 Patent. '1888. To John Boultbee Brooks, of Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, Manufacturer and Factor, and George Picken, of Birmingham aforesaid, Commercial Traveller, for the invention of "improvements in the sticks of umbrellas, and in walking sticks and whips."'[3]
1871 A Lodger at 16 Yew Tree Lane, Edgbaston: John B. Brooks (age 24 born Hinckley, Leics.), Manufacturer of General Stock. In the house of Helena Evans and her family.[4]
1871 Mentioned as John Boultbee Brooks, Great Charles Street, and a supporter of the Blue Coat School.[5]
1873 Patent. '1501. To John Boultbee Brooks, of Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, Manufacturer, and Peter Bull, of Walsall, in the county of Stafford, Manufacturer, for the invention of "improvements in rings or suspenders for suspending key's, watches, and articles of jewellery, and for other like purposes."'[6]
1874 Patent. '2443. And to John Boultbee Brooks, of Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, Manufacturer, for the invention of "improvements in sleeve links and solitaires, and other fastenings for jewellery and dress."[7]
1891 Living at 143 Pershore Road, Edgbaston: John B. Brooks (age 44 born Hinckley, Leics.), Manufacturer of leather Goods and an Employer. With his wife Alice J. Brooks (age 36 born Aston) and their five children; Alice A. Brooks (age 16 born Small Heath); John B. Brooks (age 14 born Harborne); Marie B. Brooks (age 13 born Harborne); May E. Brooks (age 10 born Birmingham); Kate E. Brooks (age 8 born Birmingham); and Wilfred M. Brooks (age 6 born Birmingham). Also his nephew Harry B. Brooks (age 13 born Birmingham).[8]

1900 Marriage of his eldest daughter Alice Annie to Frank Bertram Yates.[11]
1905 Improvements in cycle saddles by John Boultbee Brooks and John Holt.[12]
1915 His youngest son Leslie Brooks, age 23, killed in action in France.[13] [14]
1921 March 27th. Died age 77.
1921 Probate. '...claims or demands against the estate of John Boultbee Brooks, late of Finstall Park, in the county of Worcester, and Great Charles-street, Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, deceased (who died on the 27th day of March, 1921, and whose will was proved in the Principal Registry of the Probate Division of His Majesty's High Court of Justice, on the 7th day of July, 1921, by Boultbee Brooks, Arthur Caleb Johnson and Thomas Flavell, the executors therein named), are hereby required to send the particulars, in writing, of their claims or demands to us...'[15] Left £330,614 and is of Finstall Park, Worcester and chairman of J. B. Brooks and Co.[16]
