John Brinsmead and Sons

Regarded by many as possibly the best British piano maker, though this view was attributed to John Broadwood after the turn of the century. Brinsmead pianos, both grand and upright are fine pianos, with a wonderfully warm, rich tone, and beautifully crafted. [1]

1837 Company established.
1899 The company was registered on 28 December, to take over the business of piano manufacturers of the firm of the same name. [2]
1914 Pianoforte manufacturers. Specialities: horizontal grand and upright pianofortes, art cases. Employees 300. [3]
Post-WWI British piano makers were confronted by turbulent industrial relations, changing economic circumstances, and in some cases, weaknesses in management, which led, for example, to the collapse of the Brinsmead firm in 1920.
