JOHN BULT MEREDITH, born on the 5th February, 1821, died at Croydon on the 28th December, 1915, aged 94.

Trained under Mr. John Hague, at Rotherhithe, he obtained employment in an engineering works at Birmingham, and afterwards, during the period of railway expansion, was engaged on surveys and construction work in various parts of the country, as well as on harbour and dock contracts.

In 1851 he purchased a saw-mill and carried on business until his retirement.

In later years he travelled abroad extensively, recording his experiences in an autobiography published shortly before his death.

He was elected an Associate on the 5th April, 1859.
