JOHN CAMPION, who retained a connection with engineering in the Manchester district during most of his lifetime, was educated at Marlborough and the College of Technology, Manchester. After serving his apprenticeship with Messrs. Mather and Platt, Ltd., of Salford, from 1897 to 1899, he held short appointments as assistant works manager to the Steel Nut and Tube Company and on the staff of Electromotors, Ltd.
In 1901 he became leading draughtsman to Messrs. Isaac Storey and Sons, Ltd., and two years later was made outside superintendent and inspecting engineer. He held this position until 1907. After a brief period as consulting and contracting engineer he was, from 1910, assistant engineer to Dr. J. T. Nicolson, in his private practice. Subsequently he joined the staff of the Manchester College of Technology and acted as assistant to the works superintendent. For the last seven years of his life he held a position in the general office of the College.
Mr. Campion was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1910. His death occurred in his sixty-fifth year on 24th June 1942.
