JOHN DRAKE, born on the 29th July, 1843, entered at the age of 16 the office of his father, the late Mr. Thomas Drake, of Bradford, where he obtained a practical training in building construction.
After being engaged for four years as chief assistant to his father, he commenced business on his own account in 1868.
From that time he was engaged in the design of breweries, dyehouses and mills, both at home and abroad, and of apparatus in connection therewith. For the Queensbury, Thornton, Tong, Shelf and Clayton Local Boards he designed and constructed water and sewerage works, and in 1892 he was appointed Engineer to the Thornton and Tong Local Boards.
He was also a partner in the firm of John Morton and Co., of the Fireclay Works at Thornton, near Bradford.
Mr. Drake died at his residence, Winterbank, Queensbury, on the 13th April, 1901.
He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution on the 5th February, 1892.
