1823 Birth of son, John Beatson in Rotherhithe

At some point took over the family business of shipbreaking at Surrey Canal Wharf

1838 Acquired the hulk of HMS Temeraire; she was towed by 2 steam tugs to Beatson's yard at Rotherhithe. Beatson donated some of her timbers to a relative who was building an extension to Rotherhithe parish church nearby[2].

1839 Ship breaker, living at the Grand Surrey Docks[3]

1841 John Betson 40, lived in Brixton (no occupation stated) with Elizabeth Betson 40, Isabella Betson 20[4]
