JOHN EDWARD HARGROVE, born at York in 1838, died in London on the 29th May,

1913. Having served his articles with Messrs. Atkinson, architects and surveyors, of York, he was engaged as contractor’s assistant on the works of the Bahia and San Francisco Railway.

For 7 years, from 1859 to 1866, he was on the engineering staff of the Great Northern Railway, and subsequently he was employed successively on the construction of gasworks at Moscow and at Beckton, and as surveyor to James Akroyd and Sons, Ltd, Halifax. He retired in 1880.

Mr. Hargrove was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 7th December, 1880.
