John Filshill
of 420 Gallowgate, Glasgow
Manufacturing confectioners.
1861 Established by John Filshill.
1893 The confectionery and preserve works in Gallowgate were almost completely destroyed by fire, with damage estimated at between £10,000 and £12,000.[1] The firm rebuilt on the same site, but the business ceased the manufacture of preserves and thereafter concentrated on sugar confectionery.
1897 John Filshill died.[2] The following year, his trustees passed control of the firm to James Filshill and James Hamilton, to carry on the business as John Filshill.[3]
1909 John Filshill Limited was registered, with capital of £10,000, to carry on the business of wholesale and export confectioners[4]
1931 The company went into voluntary liquidation.[5]
