Note, this is a subsection of John Fowler and Co.

Alice. 1901 R-Type, 2 Speed Compund Traction Engine. No. 9271, Reg No. AJ 5819.

This engine started life with Charles Turner and Sons of Lazenby, North Yorkshire. They ran a fleet of 9 engines; 7 agricultural and 2 road locomotives.

Alice was used for thrashing and timber haulage during the day, and by night she would 'draw sawdust' from a local factory.

In 1945 she had a new firebox and her wheels re-straked.

In 1947 until 1985 she was laid up in a shed with the Turners until advertised in the World Fair, 1985.

In 1985 she was purchased by Pat Allen of Langton by Wragby, Lincoln. He fitted a new tube plate and tubes and rallied her until 2006.

In 2006 David and Amanda Glanville and family of Twowatersfoot, Liskeard, Cornwall bought her and fitted a new firebox, back head, foundation ring, fire hole door ring, back axle, third shaft, suspension links, brake bands, high pressure and regulator valves and refurbished the tender. [1]
