1811 John Fownes, son of John Fownes, needle maker, was freed of his servitude[2]

1811 John Fownes of Coventry Street, Haymarket was a Glover & Brace & Belt-Maker[3]

1815 With his wife Jane, John had a son, George, who became a Professor of Chemistry[4]

1821 Birth of son, Frederick John Fownes, in Middlesex, son of John Fownes and his wife Jane.

1829 John Fownes, of Coventry Street, was a hatter, glover, brace and bell-maker[5]

1834 John Fownes of Coventry Street, Haymarket was a needle maker[6]

1839 John Fownes of Coventry Street, was a hatter and glover[7]

1847 John Fownes was of Grange Terrace, Michael's grove, Brompton[8]

1849 George Fownes FRS of Grange Terrace, Brompton, died age 34.[9]



  • It seems likely there was a connection with the Fownes family of Fownes Gloves but not sure what it is.
