Eight years practical experience in works. Technical training at University College, London. Awarded Whitworth Scholarship and Miller Scholarship.

1890 Professor of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the University, Leeds

WWI 4 years in the Air Service, on the technical side of aircraft. Major R.A.F.

By 1922 publications included "Mechanics Applied to Engineering " and numerous papers on the friction of bearings, ball and roller bearings, stresses in crane hooks, flooding of culverts, live steam feed water heater. Experiments on plunger pumps.
