c1696 Born in Bilstone the son of Benjamin and Mary Grundy, and resided in the nearby village of Congerstone for most of his early life.

Married Elizabeth Dalton some time before 1719

Became interested in fen drainage

Worked with Humphry Smith, whom he then succeeded.

1738-42 John Grundy Senior and Humphry Smith were engineers for the third part of the Deeping Fen Drainage
