1914 Born, presumably son of Charles and Ellen Bassett

1939 Tester and Calibrator, Scientific Measuring Instruments, lived in Wembley with his brother.

He had a background in electrical and electronic industries

1949 Joined James Swift and Son; microscopy was 'completely new' to him but the optical world created an 'interesting challenge'.

1959 Bassett left the company when some of his ideas were not taken up.

Set up John H. Bassett and Son, microscope distributors

1968 Bassett purchased J. Swift and Son Ltd.
