1795 Born in Dewsbury

Became a stonemason; travelled around the country, working on railway construction projects, for Robert Stephenson amongst others.

1846 In preparation for the construction of the Britannia Bridge, he moved to Craig Owen in Menai Bridge with his second wife Sarah and his family.

He was responsible for construction of the masonry towers and abutments of the bridge as Nowell, Hemingway and Pearson.

Both of their sons died at a young age

1872 On the death of John, the Hemingway line ended.
