JOHN HENRY SHELDON WIDDOWSON, was formerly chairman and managing director of John H. Widdowson, Ltd., Britannia Works, Salford, screw manufacturers, and had been associated with the firm throughout his professional career, including his apprenticeship, which he served from 1896 to 1900.

He was educated at Hulme Grammar School, Manchester. He was first placed in charge of the hardening room and three years later was made assistant manager.

He became a partner and works manager in 1904 and had held office as chairman and managing director from 1925 until his retirement in 1935.

Mr. Widdowson, whose death occurred on 17th May 1952 in his seventy-third year, was elected a Member of the Institution in 1917.
