JOHN HENRY SOKELL was born on 31st January 1846.

In the year 1860, he entered the service of Messrs. Manning Wardle and Co., engineers, Leeds; and in 1867 went to the Hunslet Engine Co., Leeds.

In 1873 he became the local representative of the Monk Bridge Iron Co., Leeds, in whose employment he remained until the time of his death, which took place on 17th February 1883.

He became an Associate of the Institution in 1882.
