JOHN HENRY WALLACE, a native of Alderney, Channel Islands, was born on the 26th August, 1854, and died in Natal on the 19th May, 1909.
He went out to that colony in 1874 and was employed for many years as contractor’s engineer on the construction of various sections of the Natal Government Railways.
On the completion of the line to Ladysmith, he bought a farm and took up the pursuit of agriculture and stock-breeding. Subsequently at one time he held the portfolios of Lands and Works in the Colonial Ministry.
Mr. Wallace was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 7th December, 1880.
