Mr. J. H. R. Nixon (Member), was apprenticed to engineering with Vickers Limited, Sheffield, and educated concurrently at Sheffield University.
In 1919, after serving in the Royal Air Force during the 1914-18 War, he joined Metropolitan-Vickers, Limited, as a design engineer.
In 1920 he joined The Brush Electrical Engineering Company, Limited, and has successively held the positions of electrical design engineer, chief electrical engineer, divisional manager, works director and, since 1948, has been technical director at the Loughborough Works of that company. He has been connected with the development of steam turbines, electrical switchgear, transformers, rotating machines and traction equipment, and has also been responsible for the education and training of apprentices.
Mr. Nixon has travelled extensively on the Continent of Europe and in the United States of America to study industrial and technical problems connected with the manufacture of power equipment and methods of training.
In 1933 he was Chairman of the Local Centre of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.
He is a Life Member of Court of the University of Nottingham and a Governor of the Loughborough Colleges under the Leicestershire Education Authority.
