JOHN JAMES RADCLIFFE died suddenly on 15th June 1930 at the age of 49.

He was assistant works manager at Messrs. Thomas Robinson and Son's Railway Works, Rochdale, and had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1906.

Mr. Radcliffe entered Messrs. Robinson's works as a boy thirty-five years ago, and remained in the service of the firm until his death. During his apprenticeship he attended evening classes at Rochdale Technical School and after gaining a local scholarship attended a half-time course at the College of Technology, Manchester. Shortly after the completion of this course he was appointed an assistant teacher in the engineering classes at Rochdale Technical School and had been engaged there each session ever since, eventually becoming head of the engineering department.
