1829 September 7th. Married at Walton-on-the-Hill to Mary Hoult (presumably related to Joseph Hoult)

1834 August 12th. Birth of daughter Mary. John is an Engineer

1836 October 17th. Birth of daughter Martha. John is an Engineer

1839 September 10th. Birth of son Charles Jones. John is an iron-Founder

1841 Living at Viaduct Foundry, Newton, Lancs: John Jones (age c40), Iron Founder and Engineer. With his wife Mary Jones (age c35) and their two children Martha Jones (age c5) and Charles Jones (age c2). Two servants.[1]

1841 Birth of son James

1841 Death of his wife Mary age 36 years.[2]

Mary's sister Anne Hoult was Jones' housekeeper for many years after he was widowed.

1847 October. Membership of the IMechE - of Jones and Potts

1851 Living at Popper(?) Ally, Newton in Makerfield: John Jones (age 49 born Liverpool), Engineer - Widower. With his sister-in-law Ann Hoult (age 35 born Old Swan, Liverpool), Housekeeper. Also his two children Annie Jones (age 20 born Liverpool) and John Jones (age 18 born Newton). One visitor and two servants.[3]

c.1853 after leasing the foundry to the LNWR, he seems to have moved to Birkenhead and set up a new business.

1861 Living at 54 Hamilton Square, Birkenhead: John Jones (age 59 born Liverpool), Engineer Civil - Widower. With his sister-in-law Anne Hoult (age 44 born Liverpool). Also his five children; Annie Jones (age 30 born Newton-le-Willows); Mary Jones (age 26 born Newton-le-Willows); Martha Jones (age 24 born Newton-le-Willows); Charles Jones (age 21 born Newton-le-Willows), Engineer; James Jones (age 19 born Newton-le-Willows), Broker's Clerk. Three servants.[4]

1866 March 24th. Died. 'March 24 at his residence, 64, Hamilton-square, Birkenbead, in his 65th year, Mr. John Jones, formerly of Newton-le-Wlllows.'[5]

Probate: Late of Liverpool and of 54 Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, to George Harrison, engineer of Canada Works, Birkenhead; John Jones, engineer and his son of Chesnut House, Stratford, Essex; and Thomas James of 8 Oil Street, Liverpool, Iron Merchant.
