Obituary 1907 [1]

The death of Mr. John Lewis, founder of the Cambrian factory, and the Jersey Dry Dock, Swansea, has just taken place at the advanced age of eighty-five. Mr Lewis began life as an engineer, and always took a warm interest in this profession.

He remained proprietor of the factory and dry dock until 1897, when he retired from business. As a member of Swansea Town Council one of the most prominent of his successes was, in conjunction with Alderman Burnie, getting the toll abolished for locomotion between the Eastern and Western districts. One of his sons was the late Judge David Lewis, the first Recorder of Swansea. Another son is the mining engineer , Mr. Walter Lewis, and another Mr. John T. Lewis.
