"JOHN RONALD was born in 1878 and received his education at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, where he graduated B.Sc. in engineering. On the completion of a five years' apprenticeship with the Singer Manufacturing Company, of Clydebank, in 1899, he found his first employment in Glasgow as assistant to the works manager of Sir William Arrol and Company, Ltd.

He held this post until 1908 when he returned to the Singer Manufacturing Co with whom he remained for two years as assistant to the" manager of the department of the control method of manufacture. He then received an appointment as superintendent for Messrs. D. Napier and Sons, Ltd., of Acton.

His duties in this capacity were of a varied nature, including the charge of the toolroom and the process, rate-fixing and estimating departments. In addition he was responsible as technical adviser on matters relating to the production of motor cars and aero-engines. After an association lasting eighteen years, he transferred his services in 1928 to the Adamant Engineering Company, Ltd., of Luton, who appointed him their production engineer. Finally in 1935 he took over the duties of works manager with responsibility to the managing director for the personnel. Mr. Ronald had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1937. His death occurred in 1948."
