1861 Living at Sidwell Street, Exeter: Samuel Steele Perkins (age 43 born Exeter), Surgeon. With his wife Emma Perkins (age 42 born Upton Pyne) and their five sons; John Shirley Steele Perkins (age 16 born Exeter), Surgeon Apprentice; Alfred Roberts Perkins (age 14 born Exeter); Charles E. Steel Perkins (age 13 born Exeter); Fredrick D. S. Perkins (age 11 born Exeter); and George Chapman S Perkins (age 4 born Exeter).[1]

1903 Married at Exeter to Elsie Ann Charlotte Harrild.[2]

1904 'Mr. John Shirley Steele-Perkins, the successful candidate (Honorary Surgeon of Exeter Dispensary), is 23 years of age, and is in partnership with his father, who is one of consulting surgeons of the Dispensary. Educated Cambridge, Mr. John Shirley Steele-Perkins took his B.A. degree with honours. A course at Guy's Hospital, where he was Surgeon for months, followed. He took his M.B. at Cambridge about four years ago.'[3]
