JOHN STEVENS died, after a short illness, on March 15, 1916.

In his early years he was connected with the Farfield Main Colliery Company, but he left Yorkshire in 1886 and took up the position of Secretary to the Granville Colliery Company. Soon afterwards he became a director, and subsequently managing director of the company.

He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1897.
