JOHN THOMAS PRICE had a lifelong experience of fireclays and refractory materials. He was chairman and managing director of Messrs. J. T. Price and Company, Ltd., firebrick manufacturers, of Stourbridge, a firm which, in conjunction with his eldest son, he founded in 1913.
Mr. Price was born at Stourbridge and was educated privately. He entered the works of Messrs. Harris and Pearson, general engineers and manufacturers of firebricks and gas retorts, in 1879, and served until 1886.
During the next three years he gained experience in pattern making, and later became draughtsman, and then general engineer, after which he was made assistant works manager. He was appointed works manager in 1896, and held that position until he established the business associated with his name.
He held patents for improved types of brick dryers and continuous kilns, and was responsible for special designs for blast furnaces, retort settings, and regenerative furnaces.
Mr. Price was elected to Associate Membership of the Institution in 1913.
His death occurred at Stourbridge on 20th June 1936, in his seventy-first year.
