John Tuppen Woollright
John Tuppen Woollright (c1840-1929) of Buckler and Woollright, Leonard, Woollright and Co and Gyde and Co
1929 Died. 'The death of Mr. John Tuppen Woolright, of Arundels, London-road, Stroud, at the age of 89, is another break with the past, particularly in the church life of the parish of Holy Trinity, Stroud, where for some 40 years he had held the office of vicar's warden. Long service has been one the features of Holy and it is interesting here to record that when Canon Hawkins recently resigned after years the combined service of vicar churchwardens, and organist was nearly 130 years, and their combined ages over 300 years. Mr. R. H. Whall. Mus. Bac., F.R.C.O. having completed a quarter of a century organist, and Mr. T. H. Searle 15 years as people's warden. The late Mr. Woollright was well known and respected in the town, he having been associated with the wool and dyeing trades for many years. He was formerly a partner in the firm of Messrs. Buckler and Woollright, wool brokers, of Wallbridge, and when he retired from the wool trade he became a partner with Mr. W. H. Bishop in the firm of Messrs. Gyde, Bishop and Co., dyers, Arundels Mills, Stroud, retiring only twelve months ago. For about 40 years he was a member of the Stroud Board Guardians, but did not seek re-election last year. He was at one time captain of the Minchinhampton Golf Club, and one of the most enthusiastic of the early members. He was also a former chairman of the committee of the Stroud Club. He married the daughter of the late Mr. William Playne, of Longfords. She predeceased him some years ago, and he is survived by one daughter and two sons, to whom sympathy will be extended in their bereavement.'[1]
