JOHN WHITFIELD TURNER, who died at Bridlington on the 8th April, 1944, at the age of 66, was educated at Huddersfield College and Huddersfield Technical College, and spent the whole of his working life with the Huddersfield Electricity Department. Commencing as a pupil under Mr. A. B. Mountain, the first chief of the department, he was appointed in turn Charge Engineer, Mains Superintendent, and Deputy Borough Electrical Engineer. He succeeded Mr. Mountain as Borough Electrical Engineer in 1917, and held that position until his retirement in 1937.

He joined The Institution as an Associate Member in 1913 and was elected a Member in 1919.
