John William Horton ( -1930), County Surveyor of Derbyshire

1930 Died. 'Mr. John William Horton, of Hill Top, Makeney, Milford, surveyor to the Derbyshire County Council for more than 20 years, died in a nursing home. He had recently undergone an operation. Mr. Horton came to Derby from Hatfield and was appointed the first full-time Derbyshire county surveyor, succeeding the late Mr. J. Soames Story, whose appointment was a part-time one. He was a member of the Institute of Civil Engineers, and was considered to be one of the most skilful surveyors in the country.'[1]
