1871 Listed at West Bromwich as an Iron Manufacturer.[1]

1901 Listed as an ironworks Agent.[2]

1906 'The death of Mr. John Wootton Gill. of Vicarage Road (father of Mr. Fred J. Gill) removes an old and much respected resident of Smethwick. The sad event occurred on Thursday morning with painful suddenness. The deceased gentlemen who had represented the engineering firm of Messrs. Josiah Guest of West Bromwich. for many years, had enjoyed robust health and was preparing to go to business when he was taken ill and almost immediately expired.'
