Joseph Christian Hamel (born 1788 in Sarepta (Volgograd), died 22nd September 1862 in London) was a German-born physician, natural scientist and technologist in Russian service. He is known primarily for his investigations of technical and economic innovations, which he learned about on his extensive research and study trips in Europe and the USA. He also dealt with topics from general natural science, cultural history and school and educational policy.
