Joseph Hall (1841-1905)
Joseph Hall of Joseph Hall and Co.
1841 He was born in Rodley, near Leeds in May.
1870 He acquired premises in Lumb's Yard off West Street in Leeds. In December of this year he also acquired a patent for a mechanical press that squeezed waste leather pieces into any required shape.[1]
Whilst building the Burley Engine Works, he was living at "Peel Place", Kirkstall.[2]
1904 Joseph became very ill and retired from the business. His only son Henry, who had worked at the firm alongside his father for many years, took over control of the company.[3]
1905 November 25th - Joseph Hall died aged 64.
"An eminent Leeds engineer writing about machinery in the leather trade in 1935 described Joseph Hall as "One of the most prolific English inventors of his time in connection with the hide and leather working machinery".[4]
