SIR JOSEPH HOLLAND GODDARD, whose death occurred, suddenly, in London, on January 30, had taken a prominent part in the affairs of the machine tool industry in this country. He was seventy-five.
Sir Holland had for many years been actively associated with the business of Wadkin, Ltd., Leicester, of which he was president.
He was a former chairman of the Imperial Typewriter Company, Ltd., and of the National Steel Foundry (1914), Ltd.
On the day of his death, Sir Holland had attended a meeting of the Machine Tool Trades Association, of which he was a past-president. He was also a member of the management board of the Engineering and Allied Employers National Federation and of the Grand Council of the Federation of British Industries.
He was created a Knight in 1949.
