c1813 Born the son of John Kershaw and his wife Sarah

1851 Living at Earnshaw Street, Oldham: John Kershaw (age 58 born Crompton, Lancs.), Mechanic. With his wife Sarah Kershaw (age 55 born Crompton, Lancs.) and their son Joseph Kershaw (age 28 born Crompton, Lancs.), Mechanic.[1]

1856 January 10th. Married in Manchester to Sarah Maria Jones. Joseph is a Machinist and son of John Kershaw, a Machinist.

1861 Living at Hyde Grove, Chorlton upon Medlock: Jos Kershaw(age 47 born Manchester), Mechanic (Master) employing 7 men and 13 boys. With his wife Maria Kershaw (age 39 born Chester) and their four children; Phylis Kershaw (age 4 born Manchester); Amelia A. Kershaw (age 3 born Manchester); Jas Jno Kershaw (age 2 born Manchester); and Frank Kershaw (age 1 born Manchester). Two servants.[2]

1871 Living at 23 Hyde Grove, Chorlton on Medlock: Joseph Kershaw (age 58 born Manchester), Engineers Tool maker. With his wife Sarah M. Kershaw (age 40 born Manchester) and their five children; Phillis M. Kershaw (age 14 born Manchester); Amelia A. Kershaw (age 13 born Manchester); Gertrude A. Kershaw (age 8 born Manchester); Jessie S. Kershaw (age 6 born Manchester); and Sarah A. Kershaw (age 2 born Manchester). One servant.[3]

1877 May 21st. Died. 'On the 21st inst., at his residence, Hyde Grove, Joseph Kershaw, of the firm of J. and J. Kershaw, of this city, aged 64 years.'[4]
