"JOSEPH OLIVER CLYNE, who was born in 1882, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1923. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers. He was educated at Manchester Grammar School and at the Municipal College of Technology in that city. After gaining experience for four years as junior draughtsman and assistant to the works manager of The General Electric Company, Ltd., at Salford, he completed his education at a technical college in Germany in 1906. He was then engaged as sales engineer to the A.E.G., Berlin, until the outbreak of the 1914-18 war, for the duration of which he was interned at Ruhleben camp. After a period of recuperation he joined the staff of the Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Company, Ltd., at Manchester, as a sales engineer, and remained with this firm until his death, which occurred on 22nd October 1947, in his sixty-fifth year."
