1861 Married at Exeter to Matilda Langman

1871 Living at 109 Sidwell Street, Exeter: Joseph Paul Hoskins (age 33 born Exeter), Baker. With his wife Matilda Hoskins (age 34 born Bow, North Devon) and their three children; Joseph J. Hoskins (age 9 born Exeter); Bertha Hoskins (age 7 born Exeter); and Charles Hoskins (age 5 born Exeter). Also his mother Grace Hoskins (age 60 born Bovey Tracy) and his brother Henry Hoskins (age 20 born Exeter), Stonemason.[2]

1904 Died. '...Joseph Paul Hoskins, an upright citizen, a thorough man of business, and a good Christian....was a hero who, his younger days, had served Queen and country with distinction, and had been decorated for his bravery. During the Russian War, on board H.M.S. "Cornwallis," displayed, gallantly the Baltic, and some few years later, the Indian Mutiny, was one that brave and devoted band Englishmen who relieved Lucknow....'[5]
