Kendall Colin Browning was born in 1875, and received his education at Dulwich College and St. John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated B.A., and was also Hughes Prizeman. He obtained a Hutchinson Research Studentship, and took his M.A. degree in 1900. In 1904 he was appointed Government Analyst to the Ceylon Government, and Professor of Chemistry at the Medical College, Colombo. In 1916 he carried out special work for the War Office in connexion with water supplies in Mesopotamia, and in 1917 was lent to the Ministry of Munitions for work in connexion with high explosives and gas.
In 1921, after carrying out some research work and teaching at The Imperial College of Science and Technology, he was appointed Professor of Chemistry and Metallurgy at the Artillery College, Woolwich.
This post he retained up to the time of his death, which took place on January 25th, 1936, at the age of 60.
He was elected an Associate in 1925.
