Established in the latter part of the eighteenth century under the name of Merrill. Partnership Successions: Merrill & Knill; John Knill( father of Sir Stuart Knill, Lord Mayor of London, 1892-3); Richard Grant (1860-1887).

1914 The present partners, Richard J. Grant and Harry Grant, are the sons of the late Richard Grant. Warehouses: Nos. 27, 29, and 30, Pudding Lane; 32 to 35, Botolph Lane; Middelton's Wharf; London Docks. It was near or on the site of No. 27, Pudding Lane that the Great Fire of London (1666) began.
