L. Jannin (c1877-1936)

1936 Obituary [1]

MONSIEUR L. JANNIN died at his home in Meudon, near Paris, on March 6, 1936, aged 59 years.

He graduated in 1895 from the French Technical School Arts et Metiers de Chalons as engineer, and joined the French railroad company, the P.L.M., as a mechanic. He returned, however, to private industry, and was connected with different firms as draftsman, engineer, and finally as General Manager of a firm of agricultural machine manufacturers.

In 1911, he joined the technical staff of the Renault works, where he very soon became one of the heads of the engineering departments. Among the awards he received for his work are the 1903 medal of the Societe d'Encouragement pour l'Industrie Nationale, the 1909 silver medal of the Societe Industrielle du Nord de la France, and the A. and M. silver medal for his work in 1909, 1910, and 1911; he was also awarded the Cross of Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur by the French Government after the War.

M. Jannin was an outstanding personality, and his loss will be deeply regretted by his many friends. M. Jannin was elected a member of the Institute of Metals on September 15, 1933.
