1891 Leeds Tramway Co introduced Britain's first overhead-powered electric trams in 1891. The tramway opened on 29 October 1891.

1893 Arbitration was employed to decide on the amount of compensation that Leeds Corporation should pay the Leeds Tramway Co for its system that the Corporation sought to purchase[1]

1896 The Leeds Corporation Tramways Bill was read for the second time in Parliament[2]

1900 The Leeds Corporation Act empowered the Corporation to lay down tramways, extending the powers it had under the 1896 Act[3]

1900 Leeds Corporation started their new additional generating plant for the electrical tramways[4]

By 1901, electrification had been completed.
