Leonard Cecil Dark (c1888-1957) of Silas Hyde

1957 Died. 'Mr. Leonard Cecil Dark, former managing-director of Silas Hyde Ltd., has died at his Norfolk home, after illness. He was 69. He retired to Mundesley, Norwich, six years ago after being with the Silas Hyde firm for 49 years. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Madelaine Dark, and two married children. Mrs. Patricia Shepler, who is in the United States, and Mr. Anthony Beaumont Dark, who is a Birmingham City alderman. Mr. Dark, who was well-known in Birmingham Industrial circles, did much to make Silas Hyde a leading firm in the sheet metal industry. Mr Dark, who started his career as a designer when he left Handsworth Grammar School, was involved on secret work for the Royal Navy during the First World War. During the Second World War he was one of the men to design the famous block-buster bomb, which was used to blast submarine pens in Germany.'[1]
