1942 Obituary [1]

LEONARD WRAY, I.S.O., who died on the 14th March, 1942, at the age of 89, was one of the oldest members of The Institution, having been elected a Member of The Society of Telegraph Engineers in 1876.

Previously he had invented a form of telephone receiver which emitted sounds received from a distance by means of Reiss's diaphragm. The greater part of his life was spent in the Malayan Civil Service, at Perak.

In 1886 he presented to The Institution a number of botanical specimens of gutta-percha and india-rubber-producing trees which he had collected in Perak.

On his retirement to this country he took considerable interest in X-ray work and acted as honorary radiographer to several hospitals.
