Early 1840s Lewis Dunbar Brodie Gordon and Charles Liddell formed a partnership to construct railway lines
Engineers for the Syston and Peterborough Railway, the Newport, Abergavenny and Hereford Railway (1846) and the Leicester and Hitchin Railway.
1849 Published a plan for supplying water to London from Mapledurham[1]
1856 Fleeming Jenkin joined the business and became deeply involved in marine telegraph engineering through Lewis Gordon's association with the cable manufacturer R. S. Newall and Co of Birkenhead.
