of Austin Street, King's Lynn

In 1934 a Mr J. J. Kershaw. (now retired) commenced butter packing in King's Lynn under the name of Lincolnshire and Norfolk Dairies Ltd. Shortly after the 1939-45 war, he formed another company in the name of Modern Butter Packers Ltd, which took over from the then parent company, the specialised operation of butter packing. It continues to remain a private company. The factory function is the pre-packing of consumer packs of butter for delivery to the wholesale trade covering some 14 counties within an area of Grimsby in the North to Southampton in the South. Besides marketing the company's own registered brands i.e. "Farmhouse Brand" (blended). "Kiwi" - and "Fernleaf" (New Zealand). "Denland" (Danish) and a Special Presentation English Open pack, it has held the "Anchor" and "Fernleaf' brand packing and delivery appointments for the New Zealand Dairy Board for many years. All the year round. staffing totals 60-65 persons equally male and female. The throughput of the factory is a weekly 3 figure tonnage.[1]
