A standard gauge gravity-worked line for the Liskard and Looe Canal using horses for the uphill run was opened from Moorswater to South Caradon in 1844. It was extended to Cheesewring in 1846. 
1860 The company was incorporated. 
1862 The company worked the Liskeard and Looe Railway and leased it in 1901.
