LLEWELYN EDWARD OWEN served his apprenticeship at the Cambrian Foundry, Aberystwyth, and with Messrs. Harland and Wolff, of Belfast, from 1888 to 1893, when he went to sea as a marine engineer in ships of the Beaver Line and in the course of nine years rose from sixth to first engineer, during which period he obtained his Second-Class Board of Trade Certificate.
In 1903 he became engineer-in-charge of the Aberystwyth generating station and was responsible for the re-modernizing and change-over of the plant. Two years later he was appointed assistant engineer to the Spherical Metallic Packing Company and held this position until 1910, when he was engaged as demonstrator for the Ross-Schofield Marine Circulator Company, of Leadenhall Street, London. Subsequently he went into practice as a consulting engineer, but since 1932 he had been living in retirement owing to ill health.
Mr. Owen, whose death occurred at Birmingham on 2nd March 1943, in his seventieth year, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1911. He was also an Associate Member of the Institution of Naval Architects.
